Beginnings
We started out with our first
pet JRT
many years ago, and though it was
the incorrect thing to do, we purchased him for our father who had
early
Alzheimer's. That placement did not work and "Shorty" came to live with
us.
Shorty was a pud but we recorded with JRTCA.
We searched for several years looking for a better
quality female. We ultimately located and purchased our Ch./Intl. Ch.
Devonwood's Flying Foxy, ROMX.
Foxy was JRTCA bred but we did not take her into JRTCA.
Having been involved with AKC in retrievers years prior, and not
personally
liking the situation of the JRTCA not allowing club members to join
another
registry, we left JRTCA and took Foxy into the AKC and have never
looked back.
Foxy earned her Intl/World Ch. Title in 1999 and
took a
Group 2. In AKC, Foxy showed in the Miscellaneous group as we awaited
being accepted into the AKC Terrier Group. It was at this time that our
Grandson Thomas took an interest in showing and Junior Handling. Foxy,
with Thomas handling her, took the first AKC point in JRT's in No.
California at the first AKC show that JRT's were accepted into the
Terrier group. Thomas and Foxy went on to earn Thomas' three Open
Novice wins.
In No. California, we also participated in the
JRTNNC
Open Trials which provided
Foxy and her descendants many fulfilling awards, a number of Best
families, Best
Open Bitch, Best Bred By Exhibitor Bitch and Dog and many Go-To-Ground
and
Racing awards. The most significant of Foxy and Thomas' wins was when
Eddie
Chapman was over here to judge and placed Thomas with Foxy as Best Jr.
Handler.
Foxy has taken us so far in this breed and we know
we
will never have another
dog like her. Foxy's love is hunting in whatever venue she can be in.
Foxy and Peggy have hunted in Virginia and Maryland with Liz McKinney,
Lynn Grimsley, and Larry Morrison, and it was an
experience of a lifetime.
Keefer Farm's has produced at present over Over 80 Champion Titled
